Rep. Gary Miller's Reponse #2

From Rep. Gary Miller's Campaign

May 7, 2010—Congressman Gary Miller’s primary opponent has accused Gary of helping two nonprofit groups in exchange for campaign contributions from one of the nonprofit’s volunteer, nonpaid board members. These accusations are untrue.

The nonprofit groups, National CORE and Hope Through Housing, use public grants and private donations to redevelop at-risk neighborhoods and provide residents free or low cost senior health and childhood services. Their work beautifies neighborhoods, reduces crime and offers needed services to residents.

Rep. Gary Miller Responds to Lee McGroarty Allegations

From the Rep. Gary Miller Campaign

####
Before being elected to the California legislature more than 16 years ago and Congress more than 12 years ago, Gary Miller was a small business owner who built new homes and invested in real estate. Today, as part of Mr. Miller investment portfolio he still owns tracks of land, mostly in Southern California and Oregon.

Every year, Mr. Miller fully discloses his total investment portfolio to the U.S. House of Representatives ethics committee—included in this report are all of his land holdings.

There are hundreds of congressional watchdog groups in Washington, DC that were set up after federal law prohibited the use of “soft money” in federal campaigns. Soft money is a campaign contribution that can be in any amount and the donor doesn’t have to disclose his or her name. (For the record, Mr. Miller has never accepted these kinds of contributions.)

Listen to David Su on John and Ken Show

Yesterday 42nd Congressional candidate David Su was on the John and Ken Show on KFI 640. You can hear the interview via podcast. He was on during the 6pm hour.

Su talked about being verbally harassed in Los Angeles last weekend while supporting the new immigration law in Arizona. Su was holding a sign in support of the law. Su said an opponent of the law tried to take his sign. The hosts referred to Rep. Gary Miller as being a "good friend" of the John and Ken Show.

New Endorsements for Phil Liberatore

42nd Congressional candidate Phil Liberatore has announced several new endorsements including Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and former KKLA radio host Warren Duffy.

Our nation needs strong credible leadership, especially in today’s difficult economic time. We need leaders that will defend the constitution. Liberatore will fight to enforce our current immigration laws and complete the border fence. I believe Phil Liberatore is the man for the job.
- Sheriff Joe Arpaio, “Americas Toughest Sheriff”

Phil brings honesty back to Washington. He’s a born leader with the skills and integrity so many in Washington tend to lack. I’ve never endorsed a candidate in California before, but I am endorsing Phil Liberatore for Congress.
- Mike Boguslawski, CBS 2 News, Bogeys in Your Corner

Phil Liberatore is a man of quality of faith of values. It doesn’t matter what side of the aisle they sit as long as they look through the prism of what the founding fathers saw when they wrote the constitution.
- Robert Davi, Actor/Director

People ask me all the time ‘what can I do to help take California and America back?’ I tell them one thing you can do is vote for Phil Liberatore for Congress. It’s time we replace elected officials who only care about their own self interests…with someone who is a true conservative. Vote Phil Liberatore.
- Rick Amato, Conservative Talk Radio Host

Phil is a thoughtful, analytic, wise and solution-oriented professional who is deeply committed to his family and his faith. All those talents will serve him and us very well when he gets to Washingon DC.
- Warren Duffy, The Voice of Christian Broadcasting

Lee McGroarty Investigation Request in Daily Bulletin Article

Earlier today we posted a story about 42nd Congressional candidate Lee McGroarty requesting that the San Bernardino County District Attorney investigate Rep. Gary Miller.

The Daily Bulletin has posted an article about the request and the allegations.

McGroarty's allegation centers around earmarks Miller requested for two nonprofit organizations with ties to a campaign contributor.

The article points out the organizations have sites in the 42nd district and that other Members of Congress, from both political parties, co-sponsored the earmark requests with Miller.

Miller called the accusations by McGroarty "petty" and "childish." He went on to say, "If he wants to run to the newspaper like a little girl then go ahead. He's lucky I'm a politician or I'd sue."

McGroarty Campaign takes tip from "Wag the Dog"

In 1997 there was a movie that was called Wag the Dog. The premise was a President trying to distract the public from his personal problems by trying to focus them on something else.

Yesterday we reported that 42nd Congressional candidate Lee McGroarty is being investigated by the Federal Election Commission for possible violations of the federal election code. Later in the day we reported that McGroarty had the business entity's for two of his corporations suspended by the State.

Later yesterday evening the McGroarty campaign posted a comment on his web site calling for Rep. Gary Miller to be investigated. He claims his campaign has "pieced together records, articles and actual events and have taken their case to the District Attorney’s office, asking that the possible “corruption” come to an end." McGroarty believes that Miller is someone how tied to an ongoing investigation in San Bernardino County.

It is funny that McGroarty thinks he has found something as a private citizen leading his own investigation that the Office of San Bernardino County DA Mike Ramos couldn't find over the past few years.

Seems like McGroarty was trying to find any thing he could to turn the attention from himself.

Just heard 42nd Congressional candidate David Su on the John and Ken Show. The John and Ken Show is broadcasting from Arizona today and Su was in person.

Rep. Gary Miller puts up campaign website

The campaign of Rep. Gary Miller has put up a campaign web site.

Miller is being challenged in the Republican primary by David Su, Phil Liberatore and Lee McGroarty.

David Su about to receive National News Coverage?

42nd Congressional candidate David Su may be about to receive national news coverage. We receive reports of the visitors that read our blog. We receive information including Service Providers and if they use a search engine, what they were searching for that brought them to our site.

Over the past two weeks we have had several national print and broadcast media outlets coming to our blog. They were searching for some variation of "David Su," "42nd," and "Congress."

This may be the first indication that David Su is about to receive national attention. Su claims that he is the youngest minority to ever run for Congress as a Republican, which may be the reason for the attention.

Su is challenging Rep. Gary Miller, Phil Liberatore and Lee McGroarty for the Republican nomination in the 42nd Congressional district.

New Online Ad for Phil Liberatore

42nd Congressional candidate Phil Liberatore has put a new campaign video on youtube.com.

Someone Polling in 42nd

Allen Wilson at Red County has a post that he received an automated phone poll last night asking him about issues, Rep. Gary Miller and who they will vote for in the primary.

I imagine that we will hear the results if the candidate paying for the poll gets the results he was looking for.

Lee McGroarty has Business Entity's Suspended; Loses "rights, powers and privileges to conduct business in California."

Earlier today we posted that the Federal Election Commission is investigating the 42nd Congressional campaign of Lee McGroarty for possible federal campaign law violations. We were made aware of the investigation by the McGroarty campaign who posted the complaint, and their response, on their website.

While looking at the attachments to the complaint, specifically attachment 1 and 2, I noticed that the "Business Entity Form" listed McGroarty's corporations as being "suspended." McGroarty owns the corporations RetireAmerica Corporation and 401 (k) Administrators Inc.

I went to the Secretary of State web site to look it up and see what "suspended" meant in this context. I searched for RetireAmerica and 401 (k) Administrators. It brought up both listings, one had "Leon P McGroarty" as the "agent for service of process," the other listed "Lee McGroarty." Both said, "suspended."

Federal Election Commission investigating Lee McGroarty Campaign

The campaign of 42nd Congressional candidate Lee McGroarty has posted a comment on his web site that states his campaign is being investigated by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for possible violations of the Federal election laws. He also posted the official complaint and the campaign's response to it. He admitted being "unaware" of one of the laws he is accused of violating.

The McGroarty campaign states, "McGroarty and has campaign have cooperated fully with the FEC investigation." Yes, it actually said "has campaign" instead of "his" campaign.

McGroarty has filed amended FEC filings as a result of the investigation. We reported several weeks ago about McGroarty filing an amended return and that it was odd he would change a donation from one person to a donation from two people.

According to the FEC any one can file a complaint that would lead to an FEC investigation.

According to the complaint it appears that the McGroarty campaign is being investigated for several possible violations. The allegations are;

Lee McGroarty Posts FEC Filings, Still Breaking Pledge

For three months now we have been posting stories about Lee McGroarty breaking his signed pledge to post ALL campaign donations online. The pledge was signed by McGroarty as part of receiving the endorsement of the Conservative Party of California.

The Conservative Party came to his defense this week claiming McGroarty needed to hire more staff before he could post the list of donors.

With in a few hours of the Conservative party's comment McGroarty posted a copy of his FEC filings on his campaign web site, but still is not listing all of his donations. The FEC requires candidates to list all donations over $200 combined for an election cycle from one person. But posting the FEC forms does not give us the names of those who gave $199 or less.
