Rep. Gary Miller's Reponse #2

From Rep. Gary Miller's Campaign

May 7, 2010—Congressman Gary Miller’s primary opponent has accused Gary of helping two nonprofit groups in exchange for campaign contributions from one of the nonprofit’s volunteer, nonpaid board members. These accusations are untrue.

The nonprofit groups, National CORE and Hope Through Housing, use public grants and private donations to redevelop at-risk neighborhoods and provide residents free or low cost senior health and childhood services. Their work beautifies neighborhoods, reduces crime and offers needed services to residents.

The two nonprofits working together operate more than 100 housing campuses in the United States, including three in the congressional district Mr. Miller represents.

Congressman Miller—both personally and through his government work—has supported National CORE and Hope Through Housing’s mission.

Congressman Miller has received campaign contributions from a nonpaid board member working with these nonprofit groups but it’s not the reason he supports these worthy organizations.

National CORE and Hope Through Housing Foundation CEO Orlando Cabrera released the following statement today defending his organization: CEO Orlando Cabrera Statement.

It’s Congressman Miller’s hope that these recent accusations do not damage National CORE and Hope Through Housing’s ability to raise private donations and keep these neighborhoods thriving.
